About Samia Zaman:
Samia Zaman is one of the prominent media personalities in Bangladesh. She is well known for her role as a TV news presenter and hosting TV Talk shows. However, Samia Zaman is more than that. She is playing an extraordinary role in the scene in different sectors.
She has vast experience in journalism. Samia has a passion for movie making in which she studied as well. Apart from these, during her career, she holds some very important managerial roles in some prominent organizations.
Early Days of Samia Zaman
Samia Zaman was born in Birmingham, England. However, her paternal place was in Jhenaidah. Her father was Md. Moshiuzzaman and mother was Nazia Begum. By profession Md. Moshiuzzaman was a university teacher while her mother was a housewife. These couples had three daughters.
This well-known media person completed her SSC and intermediate (HSC) exam respectively from Dhaka University Laboratory School and Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls’ College. Later she moved into England to study SOAS University of London (Source: Jessore.info). She completed both Honors and Masters’ from there. During the 1980’s she did several courses in the short film. Following that in the late 80’s when she returned to England, Samia studied movie making and theory at London University and British Film Institute.
Samia started her career as a film editor on BBC Television. From there she gained experience in video editing. Later she joined in Bangla division of BBC Radio as a producer. She returned to Bangladesh in 1999 and based on her previous experience she joined Ekushay Television as a news producer and broadcaster. In her time, the presentation of news of ETV created a revolution and a new dimension in news presentation in Bangladesh. However, she got the most popular back then as a news presenter. Following that she joined into NTV. In 2012, she joined as the CEO and Editor of Ekattor TV.
Samia Zaman as TV Host, Director, and Producer:
Despite Samia’s massive popularity as a news presenter, she is always been passionate about the big screen movie direction. During the early ’80s, she involved with the Short film movement. Following that in 1987, Samia worked with director Morshedul Islam’s assistant for the movie “Suchona”.
Then after the break, she returned as movie direction in 2006, with the movie “Rani Kuthir Baki Itihash”. The movie starred by Ferdous, Popy, Alamgir and some other iconic media person in Bangladesh. It created a strong vibe in the box office, particularly songs of this movie that got massive popularity.
Meanwhile, she received higher education on movie making from England. Then again, she directed another movie “Aakash Koto Dure” in 2014. Some of the cast of this movie was “Razzak, Sharmili Ahmed, Fariha, Aunkon”.
Samia Zaman has her own production house. It is known as “Versa Media”. More than 30 tv drama has been produced from this production house. It also produced a couple of popular TV magazine programs like Channel I’s Cholti Hawa, ETV’s Ekusher Prohor and many more. Samia produced some documentaries from this production house as well.
In 2015, she worked as the judge at the Geneva International Oriental Film Festival. She is a member of some important film-related institutions. She also attended prestigious Cannes Film Festivals. In 2008, she awarded with Anannya Top 10 award.
